Pickled onions are small onions preserved in vinegar, often with a little sugar, salt or spice, so they stay crunchy with a sharp, tangy bite. Silverskin onions are a tiny, mild variety, often served as cocktail onions.
They are a British pub and larder favourite, served with a ploughman's lunch, cheese and cold meats, and sold from big jars in traditional chip shops.
