Garden peas are the small, round green seeds of the pea plant, picked young while they are sweet and tender. They are often frozen soon after picking, which makes a bag of frozen peas a handy freezer standby.
In Britain, garden peas are a favourite side for fish and chips, pies, sausage and mash, and the Sunday roast.
