Malt Vinegar: Our favourite ingredients to cook at home

Malt vinegar is a brown vinegar made from malted barley. The barley is brewed into a kind of ale, which is then fermented again into vinegar, giving it a sharp but mellow, malty flavour.

A shake of salt and malt vinegar over hot chips is a British chip shop tradition, and malt vinegar is also widely used for pickling onions and making chutney. In our Easy home Fish & Chips recipe, add a good splash over the fish and chips just before eating. Prime Food stocks Sarson's Malt Vinegar in a glass bottle.
